Colourful Kitchens

White kitchens are beginning to look repetitive to me. Maybe that’s because I spend a lot of time looking at kitchen renovations. That’s not to say that modern white kitchens aren’t beautiful. I do love the crisp, clean look of a sleek white kitchen. I’m saying that every once in awhile I like to be surprised by colour.

I saw this picture awhile ago, and have never been able to forget it:

Cool Hunter

I love this idea. I love the crisp white and it has just the right amount of colour. An entire kitchen in lego would be too much, but this is the perfect balance. It also brings a smile because of the memories of playing with lego as a kid.

Recently I find myself tending to lean to kitchens with a little more whimsy and quirkiness in them; Open shelving with colourful dishes, chairs that don’t match, fun pendant lights, old wood tables to contrast with all the metal and ceramic. These are all things I keep leaning to (I daydream frequently about renovating my kitchen).

The kitchen is the heart of the home, it should be inviting. Think about what that means for you, and don’t be afraid to add some colour to make that feeling happen.

The lego kitchen is a bit of an extreme example, but think about these:

Apartment Therapy

This is how you do rustic. I want to cook brunch on a Sunday morning in here.

Marie Claire Italia

I love the colour, and the long wood table with the different chairs in this one.

Beach Vintage

Green. I love when people go bold with green. The bright colour in this kitchen is amazing.

Such beautiful kitchens! These make me feel like having a cup of tea, reading a magazine, and eating a decadent breakfast on spring Sunday mornings.

Working with colour can be a fine balance, though. Start small and keep adding pieces until you feel comfortable.

Would you have a colourful kitchen? Would you be willing to have a lego counter in your kitchen?
